XXXI: Food, Diet and Exercise
explores the human body's need of a balance of proper nutrition and regular exercise. Students learn that food is composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water, and that each of these components is measured in calories. A proper balance of calories and nutrients to fuel one's daily energy requirements for activity and exercise is explored by introducing water and fat soluble vitamins, the foods containing them, and the importance of a variety of foods in our diet. Body types and BMI (body mass index) are explained so that students can make informed decisions to practice healthy eating and regular exercise.
